A very nice CPU/GPU/mobile benchmark website

It's a website currently having >35,000 types of CPU tested.
The database is perfect to me as I am the one who likes to compare apple to orange, durian to pineapple. Why am I talking like that?

This is because there are a lot types of processors for different end-usages. Some are designed for high performance like i7 and i5, mediocre like i3, low cost and TDP like atom, and of course, AMD products in competition.

In this new age of technology and processors, we cannot just compare the products according to clock rate it supports - An Intel Pentium IV 1.8GHz processor is lost to Intel Pentium III 933MHz. From this website, I can find out almost every single processor I know (I think excluding Pentium III lower than 533MHz, and below).

From here, I know my beloved Atom Cederview D2700 processor performance (848) is slightly below than Intel Dual-Core T2400 processor (884). Seems good. Hopefully it supports DotA2 well in terms of CPU performance.

For GPU, that ASUS lamborghini notebook's GPU Radeon HD 6470M is rated as high-end. That's whoa! So, so unexpected. That ASUS lamborghini VX6S wins every atom models for the time being, especially in GPU field - that's how many times the performance of AMD Fusion E450/350, Nvidia Ion, and Intel GMA.

Do not lose your data because of formatting windows!

There are a few cases happening around me: because formatting the Windows OS is the easiest way to fix, those working in computer service center keep urging customers to format all their data (maybe just the c drive, but the drive can mean everything too).

*this works for all drives and folders being locked up - cannot access them by default*

I usually boot Ubuntu from pendrive to attain all the datas into another external HDD. It is that simple to know the concept.

To regain the permission for all locked drives/folders, in terminal (Linux version of Command Prompt),
1. Type "sudo passwd root", then enter.
2. Type any password you want, even "123456" works.
3. Log out of current session, then log in as "root" - which means administrator.
4. You can access all the locked drives and folders. It's time to copy them out into safe locations.

Don't throw them away!

If you have technology waste, whether usable or not, do not simply throw them away!
Go to http://www.computercycle.com.my/ to send your request and sell your components!

For usable stuffs, of course you can sell for a better price. They even accept old processor and motherboards for around RM10+ each.

For those just left only for recycle purpose, you can get the scrap value too.

And one thing for surprise, they accept everything! Simply everything including the old printers, dial-up modem and spoiled harddisk.

And they have service to repair harddisk if you want to recover it.

How to regain My Documents for formatted windows

Especially when you had your password locked on your previous documents,
and the previous windows was corrupted.

Now the document is there, you need to regain the permission.
Please, use this only because you're the owner. Do not abuse.
God is watching you.

take ownership of the tree structure as the 'old' machine permissions are not understood by the new one.

from explorer, if xp pro, tools/folderoptions/view and uncheck 'use simple file sharing'

then go to the top level of the old docs & settings and do rclick sharing&security. there u'll see the 'advanced' button. click it and u'll find the 'owner' tab.

use owner tab to 'add' u'r current account and/or u'r current administrator. check the 'replace on subcontainers' checkbox and OK u'r way out.

Dialing up 2 Streamyx accounts using the same phone line

If you are lucky enough

to have 2 TMnet Streamyx accounts,

and you wish to dial both of them using same telephone line,

the answer is: You CAN do so!

These are the experiments that I’ve done with:

Experiment 1: (Success, no drawback)

Equipments:

1 x 5 port LAN switch – such as DLink DES-1005A

1 x modem – such as Riger DB102

1 x wireless LAN router – such as DLink DIR-300

Insert the telephone cable into modem，

LAN port of modem is connected to switch port，

One of switch’s LAN port is connected to router internet port，

Switch’s other LAN ports can be connected to computer that is used to dial the second line.

（Maybe can be more than 2 lines, each computer only can dial-up 1 line）

Modem’s function must be set as ‘bridge’，

that means we need to manual dial-up.

For wireless router, we can set it to auto-dial mode.

Computer which is connected to switch can dial-up the other account then!

Note：This computer is not in the same network as the other computers connected by router.

Experiment 2: (Success, but not fully success, side effect is wireless instability)

Equipment:

1 x wireless modem，like – Innacomm W3100

1 x LAN switch，like - DLink DES-1005A

The hardware setup is like usual.

Telephone line is plugged to wireless modem，

Wireless modem’s LAN port is connected to switch LAN port，

Switch LAN port is connected to all computers.

Only static IP address can be used here.

Again, wireless modem is set as ‘bridge’.

Now, make one computer as host

Host computer must be connected to switch using LAN cable.

Dial-up Properties setting is as figure below:

Example of Host IP configuration:

IP address: 192.168.0.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 （following own IP address）

Example for those computers that connect internet through the host computer:

（same for wireless）

IP address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 （following host’s IP address）

To dial-up another account,

the computer’s IP address needs to be static too, as below:

IP address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: -

I’ve tried both these methods.

For the second one, it is working,

but I’m not sure whether is

Innacomm W3100 wireless modem’s problem

Computers connecting using wireless keep disconnecting,

Damn it ><

If you’ve tried the 2^nd experiment,

and if your wireless network is stable,

do tell me which equipment(s) are you using,

and how you make it~

p/s: Some people ask for reason doing this way,

the advantage is

one line does not affect the other line.

While one is downloading heavily

another computer using the second line does not feel the lagness.

同一个电话线上两个Streamyx Account

如果你这么幸运

拥有两个TMnet Streamyx Account

又同时要在同一个电话线上的话

答案是：可以！

这是我试过的实验：

实验1: （100%成功，没副作用）

器材：

1 x 5 port LAN switch – 譬如DLink DES-1005A

1 x modem – 譬如Riger DB102

1 x wireless LAN router – 譬如DLink DIR-300

电话线插进modem，

Modem的LAN port 接去switch port，

Switch 其中一个 LAN port 接去router internet port，

Switch其他的LAN port可接去要用第二个streamyx account的电脑

（应该可以三个，甚至更多）

Modem的功能必须设定成bridge，

即是必须manual dial-up，

Wireless Router的设定可以是 auto-dial或是manual-dial

接去switch的电脑就可以自己dial-up另外一个account了！

注：接去switch的电脑和接去router的电脑

By default是没在同一个network的

实验二：（半成功，副作用是wireless不稳定）

器材：

1 x wireless modem，譬如 – Innacomm W3100

1 x LAN switch，譬如 - DLink DES-1005A

Hardware setup跟平时一样

电话线接去wireless modem，

Wireless modem的LAN port接去switch LAN port，

Switch LAN port接去全部电脑。

这里要用static IP address

Wireless Modem也是设定成Bridge，

即是不能Auto-dial

作为host的电脑必须用LAN cable

Dial-up Properties的设定如下图：

Host IP address 等设定例子：

IP address: 192.168.0.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 （跟回自己的IP address）

其他要通过host上网的电脑 的IP address等等设定例子：

（Wireless上网的电脑设定也一样）

IP address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 （跟Host的IP address）

要Dial-up另外一个account用的电脑最好也是static IP，如下：

IP address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: -

这种方法我试了，

可行，只是不知道是不是
